Polite Botany Series

Polite Botany is a term from the 19th century to denote the study of what were once deemed ‘lower plants,’ such as fungi, moss and lichens, specifically studied by women. Polite Botany was a backdoor into the sciences for women at the time, as such flora and fungi were not considered as worthy of study.
