About "The Deluge," A Collaboration between Julia Westerbeke and Clare Parry

As in past collaborations, "The Deluge" explores how two artists can use the same point of inspiration (i.e. the fantastical, organic and ornamental) to create diverse yet deeply intertwined imagery. We think of our collaborations as ecosystems where visual symbols of the future (Julia Westerbeke's sci-fi sculptures) and the past (Clare Parry's "Yellow Wallpaper" inspired installations and paintings) co-exist, creating a Darwinian environment where one design seems to encroach upon or sprout from another. Growth, decay and an experimental state of play are dominant themes.
